LIFE IN TENSION - STORIES THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE
We live a life in tension! On one hand, we have the world which tempts and pulls us in one direction. On the other hand, we have God who invites us to embrace Him and values. We live life in between the values of the kingdom of earth and the kingdom of God. Many of us feel like a piece of rope in a great tug-of-war, sometimes ready to snap!
Jesus taught using parables that challenged people to look at their values and how they lived. Parables are simply riddle-like teachings that convey Truth. When asked why he taught in this way, He shared how they help people to truly see, hear, and understand the Gospel. Illustrations and stories are such an important part of preaching and teaching God’s word. Illustrations serve a variety of purposes. One of my preaching professors used to say that the illustration you use helps your congregation to see God’s Word from a different perspective. He equated it to looking at a diamond from many different angles. As you turn it around and hold it to the light, you notice different sparkles and shines!
